About Visual Voices, Inc.The Visual Voices StoryWe, Patty Orr and Lisa Suerdieck, are sisters as well as the owners of Visual Voices, Inc. We fell in love with American Sign Language over 10 years ago when we met our now dear friend and "sister," Edina. She is from Hungary and became deaf at the age of 13. She came to America to get her Master's degree at California State University, Northridge. She flew to Las Vegas from Hungary, where we were living at the time, and we drove her to Northridge where she would live in the Deaf dorms for the next year. This was the first time we were exposed to Deaf culture and the beauty of American Sign Language. It was then that we decided to start taking ASL classes. Lisa completed her degree in Deaf Studies and is currently working as an educational interpreter. Patty also works in the school setting as a Speech/Language Pathologist in the Total Communication program for the Deaf. We both feel very passionate about the education and language development of the Deaf students we work with. We also feel passionate about giving the hearing community the opportunity to experience the beauty of American Sign Language. |
